How to Transition to Eating a Natural Vegetarian Diet
July 03, 2022
Nobody can eat a diet that is identical to someone else’s then think that it is going to last for a lifetime. We all have our own food likes and dislikes, which makes us unique. Therefore, if you dislike salads and I tell you that you have to eat a salad all the time, then you will soon give up and go back to eating the unhealthy things you enjoy.
I would suggest to start out, look at what you currently eat and try to make each meal healthier. Let's start with breakfast. If you normally eat toast made out of white bread with margarin and processed jelly, then switch to a whole grain bread with real butter and natural jam. Or maybe you enjoy an instant package of oatmeal, then spend a little extra time to cook some old fashioned oats, and top it with maple syrup and a fruit of your choice.
Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks will be done the same way. My household loves Taco Tuesday nights, which is a great way to make homemade refried beans and loads of fresh vegetables. You will find that homemade corn tortillas are simple to make, and taste way better than the store bought kind. Be sure to make enough for leftovers for lunch for the next day, or make a yummy taco salad with the beans and vegetables. We also enjoy pizza, but we stay away from the frozen processed variety. Even if you have to start with making your crust with all-purpose flour, then work your way to a half white and half whole grain blend, until you end up with a 100 percent whole grain crust. Make sure to find either a unprocessed sauce, or better yet, make your own. I have learned that if you make a big batch of sauce, it can also be used during the week to go on a whole grain pasta!
Try to find all the unprocessed foods and replace them with a more natural alternative. If you still have items that you just can't get rid of yet, don't beat yourself up about it. As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day, it will take time to replace bad eating habits. As you begin your journey, just realize that if you are adding better things to your diet today, than your next step in the weeks and months to come will only get better.
It really is little changes throughout the day that will help get you on track for a healthier lifestyle. Trust me, your body will thank you for it!
